NEDO Silicon Valley, in collaboration with the University of California at Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center (WCEC), published a market report of residential heat pumps in California.
Background Information
As part of California’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2045, the state is working towards decarbonizing the building sector which accounts for 25% of statewide GHG emissions. In 2022, Governor Newsom established a goal of installing 6 million heat pumps by 2030.
To understand the opportunities and barriers that Japanese heat pump manufacturers face, NEDO Silicon Valley commissioned the WCEC to conduct a study of the California heat pump market. This report provides an overview of the market drivers including policies, building standards, and incentive programs, as well as identifies technical, economic, and workforce challenges.
