NEDO Silicon Valley hosted a hybrid (in-person/online) IP seminar titled “Crystal Ball Meets Dashboard: How Data Predicts Risk and Powers Innovation” as part of the Bay Area CHIZAI (IP) Seminar Series.

Presenter:

Kent Richardson, Partner, Richardson Oliver Law Group LLP/ CEO, Richardson Oliver Insights

Discussant:

Jared Engstrom, Senior Director, IP Strategy, CrowdStrike

Patents are important for companies to justify investments in R&D in a competitive environment, as they drive innovation. However, maintaining a patent portfolio is costly, and companies must continuously evaluate and adjust their patent strategies. How can IP professionals justify their strategies and effectively communicate their IP plans and budgets to company executives?

In this CHIZAI seminar, we explored a data-driven approach—analyzing patent landscapes, litigation trends, competitor activities, and more—to provide companies with a clear, strategic perspective for developing effective patent strategies, mitigating risk, and fostering innovation.

Kent Richardson shared key insights in his presentation, breaking down the fundamental steps of patent strategy: identifying risks, developing strategy, communicating strategy, executing strategy, and evaluating choices. Afterwards, Kent hosted a discussion featuring Jared Engstrom and provided hands-on examples of using data to both mitigate corporate risk and accelerate innovation.

Through this event, we learned how risk forecasting based on various data factors can navigate creation of effective and optimized patent portfolio strategies and supports efforts to persuade other company stakeholders.

We are deeply grateful to our exceptional speakers and sincerely thank all attendees who joined us in-person and online.

We hope to see you at our next event!
