Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Project
in San Diego
Project will demonstrate application for renewable energy integration and mitigating the “Duck Curve.”
Battery system is located at a substation to verify operational performance.
Redox Flow Battery
1.No limit of cycles @full charge/discharge
2.Long lifetime (20+ years)
3.Easy to increase the capacity battery system by adding an electrolyte tank
5.Accurate State of Charge(SoC) monitoring
NEDO and Sumitomo Electric, with cooperation from San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E), a major local power company, are operating a 2 MW/8 MWh RF battery installed at a substation in an electricity distribution grid.
