Flexible Energy Management System Project

Objective

To help achieve SMUD’s Zero Carbon Plan, an energy management system will be deployed in residential homes to demonstrate both support for grid stability and GHG reductions while maintaining residential comfort and minimizing electricity costs.

System Overview

Smart devices will provide electricity cost forecasts and recommendations based on DR-compatible home appliances, residential conditions, and time-of-use rate information, while automatically controlling the system without compromising residential comfort.

Participants

Panasonic and UC Davis, in cooperation with the California Energy Commission, will jointly conduct the demonstration project. SMUD will evaluate the results to analyze how the technology can benefit their system and their customers.
