Demonstration of Hydrogen Operations
at the Port of Los Angeles
Participants
Objectives
At the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, large number of heavy diesel equipment and vehicles contribute to poor air quality in the surrounding areas.
The deployment of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) will help alleviate port pollution and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For heavy-duty, cargo handling equipment and vehicles, hydrogen fuel cells have the potential to achieve operations equivalent to existing diesel powered engines.
Project Overview
Integrate fuel cells in port cargo handling equipment and drayage trucks.
Produce renewable hydrogen and establish a hydrogen supply chain in the port region using the world's first ultra high-pressure mobile hydrogen refueling vehicle.
Through long-term, real-world port operations, identify issues which need to be addressed in order to scale the deployment of the technologies in domestic and overseas ports.
