The latest issue of Focus NEDO highlights the research and development of plant based materials to substitute raw materials derived from petroleum. One such project has seen breakthroughs in the manufacturing process which could lead to mass production of strong and lightweight resins created from non-edible biomass such as wood. NEDO’s work in this field is contributing to the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry’s (METI) goal of mass producing cellulose nanofibers (CNF) by 2020 and achieving a CNF market of one trillion yen by 2030.
The second featured article invites users to utilize databases launched by NEDO for the development of solar and wind generation projects. Built from many years of experience with renewable energy R&D, the databases such as the Solar Radiation Database or the Offshore Wind Conditions Map provide an estimate of the amount of generation capacity for all areas of Japan.
